And as such, I am not gonna let some virus, rules, government stop me from enjoying those last years. If its 10 or 15 more years, nice...if it is less, so be it. Important is not the quantity, but the quality ! 15 years with a mask and no social life, or 5 years full speed and fun... easy choice. At the start of the virus nobody knew how bad it would be.Now we can see the vast majority of people are not gonna die from it, more likely to have a heart attack etc. It's time to get back to living our lives without fear. I have no problem with wearing a mask in a shop until the vulnerable can be vaccinated, but we cannot keep putting life into lockdown. That's fine if you are not socialising with others and you are no risk to others, but it doesn't work that way without thus endangering other people who may not take the same attitude. It's not just about self preservation, or self interest. I suspect that we, as a planet, will get on top of this virus within a couple of years. Not that the virus will completely disappear, but that science will come up with ways to treat and combat the virus without the need to lock down or have massive restriction on movement of people. We survived the Spanish Flu, but at a very high mortality price. The problem is, that if we don't have a United front until such times, then there will be much more carnage before things get better. United we stand, divided we fall Sure, none of us are enjoying our lives as much as we were a year ago. None of us enjoy wearing masks and social distancing, but we are lucky in the sense that we are able to communicate, have food on the table, have visual entertainment and be with our families if we chose, in most cases. It is not as if we are in prison. If you are currently in a place where there is no virus and no risks, then you are lucky. However, many of us who live in large towns and cities in Europe and US etc, do not have that luxury. There is no point in having lockdowns or imposing restrictions unless a large majority abide by them. To succeed it has to be a United effort. One of the main reasons why we are facing a second wave of the pandemic is because of people's behaviour. The virus itself only has one object. To find a host and multiply. The more we allow ourselves to become hosts, the stronger the virus will become, until such time that we find ways to treat and prevent it. The overwhelming majority of individuals who contract Covid19 do not die. Many do not have any symptoms at all. I doubt if the take up of the vaccine(s), when available, will be more than about 50% of the world's population and I keep reading that the "experts" believe any vaccine will at best be about 50% effective. It is not going to go away. Like influenza it is going to be here for ever. People are going to go on contracting Covid19 and sadly a small percentage of those will die. That happens with every medical condition known to man. Why panic? If your name is on the bullet your name is on the bullet. roomark Posted November 1, 2020 Share Posted November 1, 2020 This is pretty ironic 🤣🤣 Anyway Friday the Mrs is home from work (she gets tested weekly from work) and has a negative result from last Wedneaday , but Friday is showing symptoms (no taste , sore throat and weak) so work advise her to go for another test and get me tested too... Last night after i'd been on here we get a text message and an e mail she is positive and I am negative , though I woke up this morning with the same symptoms she had and i've been for another test an hour ago, which I will get the results for within 72 hours (it took 24 hours for the last ones) So far she isn't too bad and not even off her feet , there are five other people who she works with that all tested positive before her and they are all ok and not affected too much. I'm about to find out close up what it's like... Hope your symptoms remain mild.
